‘Footloose’ finds its new Kevin Bacon

First Zac Efron was up for the role. Then Chace Crawford was going to do it.
Now, Paramount has just announced that casting is complete for the remake of 1984 cult film Footloose. And after an “extensive worldwide search,” newcomer Kenny Wormald will fill Kevin Bacon’s dancing shoes.
Wormald appeared in the MTV series Dancelife and recently toured with Justin Timberlake. This will be the first major U.S. feature film role for the Boston native. He’ll star opposite Dancing With The Stars pro and country singer Julianne Hough, playing Ariel. Dennis Quaid also joins the cast as Reverend Moore.
The movie will feature choreography from Jamal Sims, who recently worked with Madonna on her Sticky & Sweet Tour. Sims will next choreograph the Neil Patrick Harris production of Rent starring Nicole Scherzinger and Vanessa Hudgens, from Aug. 6-8 at the Hollywood Bowl.
